Sleep ∞ Over – Romantic Streams

A few music blogs described this best as ‘trag- jam’ (tragic jam?); a lot of heavy riffs reminiscent of Cocteau Twins, bar Elizabeth Fraser’s vocals, but just as riveting.

New Death in Vegas stuff

After a 7-year hiatus, they have something new coming around September-ish (is there a queue of great stuff coming out later this year or what?) AND they are going to be at Harvest. Correct! Really loved Satan’s Circus and Scorpio Rising, so can’t wait!

Neon Indian – Fallout & Heart Previews

Haven’t been this excited about an album release in a while 🙂 I hope the richness of the latest preview of “Fallout” from Neon Indian’s upcoming September album Era Extraña speaks for the entire album when it comes out in September. Would it be wrong of me to say it sounds like it has a “my bloody valentine” shoegazer angle to it, let alone looks like it too?

There are also two video snippets of the HEART electro instrumentals which are also going to appear on the album.  A different direction away from his first album Psychic Chasms, but definitely welcoming. 80s-esque lo-fi TV synths and samplings? Sign me up please!

Underworld – Moon In Water

Not many of the great 90s electronic acts have made it through in one piece into the new millenium, but Underworld is definitely an exception. Some stuff from their most recent album Barking popped up randomly on my playlist and I was just reminded that I have the CD + DVD set when it first came out late last year buried somewhere in my mess from moving. Need to find it!

One of my favourite tracks that came out of the album was Moon in Water; a lot more mellow than their usual, but it seems every time musicians creep out of their comfort zones, something amazing can occur.

SMASH! Twitter Overview

Kind of almost like a follow-up to my Manifest twitter overview, really want to share some topline numbers on how people tweeted during SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show). Only “SMASHCON” was used in this hull (god knows how many people actually used “SMASH” in their tweets, but will be lost in all mentions of “smash”, as a general term, on the internet) and I only looked at Friday, Saturday and a bit of Sunday.

I think it’s safe to say that cosplay and the Eminence concert were some of the key favourite topics mentioned during the weekend.
